Secret Society of Cupcake Eaters

What a great luxury it is to have like-minded girlfriends with flexible schedules. Two of my wonderfully creative girlfriends, Christie Birsa and Lela Lee, and I started getting together for tea every so often, always midday, midweek. Entitled people without the entitlement. Sometimes we have cupcakes, but today I made crepes filled with fried bananas, topped with coconut sauce. We laughed, we giggled...it's exactly what you'd expect, pillow fights in our underwear (this is what their husbands think).

I told them about this site and my restaurant plans for the upcoming year. I went through location options and Lela had a great idea -- hire a Feng Shui consultant. Done.

CUPCAKE ROYALE

One of our extended family "aunties" brought two boxes of cupcakes to my sister's wedding shower and everyone had a giggle over them, pink ones with sprinkles, chocolate, lemon with yellow icing etc. They were so pretty and festive and even though we affectionately mocked them, there wasn't a single one left by the end of the evening.

Incidentally, a dear friend of mine was managing this restaurant: http://www.andalusf.com/ when I first moved to SF, and one of the items on their desert menu was donut holes with little espresso cups of hot chocolate. It was tasty and fun to eat, like the cupcakes, and a very popular desert from what I heard. I imagine it was especially popular with tables like ours usually were, packed with girls. Decadence and whimsy. A great combination.

lDm, love that place. Magnolia bakery in NYC is also a favorite. In LA we have Joan's, but come over and I'll try to satisfy. I'm going to go make a batch of cupcakes with chocolate truffles buried in the them. Let's see how they turn out.

Areth + Bella, you're definitely invited to be part of the Secret Society. Come down anytime. Darth, you can peak from the balcony window.

Guys' party - football, beer, slabs o' meat, baseball caps. Yuck! Now, would you rather be a straight guy voyeuring into the women's party or the other way around? I prefer being a part of the Secret Society (of all females).

MHP beat me to the punch. I was going to suggest Magnolia Bakery in NYC. You would love their cupcakes; and I hear they are one of the things that Ms. Stewart misses the most while she's in the clinker.
